Railing by Wilma Marcus Chandler

36 North: A Playwrights’ Collective presents RAILING, by Wilma Marcus Chandler. This next in our series of developmental script-in-hand readings facilitates moving our works from page to stage and allow us to hear our new plays in front of audiences for the first time. RAILING will be minimally blocked, with few or no sets. As with our past shows, audiences are invited to give feedback after each evening’s presentation.

RAILING is written in a five-cycle, short-play format and takes inspiration from the classical Japanese Noh theatre, but addresses very American issues of family life and many of its tribulations. Featuring a cast of 12 actors and traditional klezmer music by Dan Phillips, it is followed by a Q&A with the audience. Chandler’s new work, recently published by Hummingbird Poetry Press, THE NIGHT BRIDGE, also takes much inspiration from classical Asian art.
